Iconography Of TV News Starting Sequences

With every news program has a opening sequence secretly telling what their news program is all about, but they do it secretly and you can never tell and it is always fast paced and doesn't stay on one thing for long. But the main message that all news program give it out is that will do everything in their power to bring the news quickly and effectively and also make sure it non biased, keeping it impartial.

The intro sequence i will mainly be looking is the ones from ITV's news at 10 as it shows the most iconic things on a news intro sequence.

Fast Paced Motion and Graphics:

You can seen in most of the intros it all fast paced and this is mainly so they can get as much time talking about the news but also to show the urgency of the news they're talking about and they want to get it to you as soon as possible.

Transparent Objects and Eyes:

Most of the title of the intro sequence are transparent and allow you to see through them and the news does to show that they will not hide any information from theirs audiences and say all the information they have about the specific subject and with the eyes it make it so you can see that they do not change of the information they are given and make sure their program is neutral and impartial, meaning they will not pick a side of a story and then make the report biased in favour of the side they support.

Land Marks and Globes:

Also in most news intro sequence you will see that they always show of some well known land marks like Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower and it shows that the news program covers the first world and shows the important stories from these places and it also means that when it shows the globe at the start of some sequences that it also covers the world's stories mostly focusing on first world countries like
Britain, America, France etc.

Clocks:

In most of the intro title you will see that in them there is clocks in them whether it will be the camera flying past Big Ben or another clock tower or if its the end title scene with the clock in the background. the reason they use clocks in the sequence it because it shows the urgency of the news and how they're urgent to give it to their audience and also shows that they will always be on time and will not be late to start the program.

Technology and Satellites:

You will see is some of the intro sequences that they also show satellites and they do this to show they will use all the technology in their disposal to be able to get the news to their audience not mater where they are or their connection, it also shows the release their news quickly to their audience in a efficient manner.

Music:

With news intro sequence there is music being played behind it to make the video become more seamless.

The intro's music they use are very beat driven and are quite fast paced and most often you can tell they're using bass instruments for the music. The reason why they use them is to try and get their audiences attention to focus and the fast beat music, gives off the sense of urgency that thy need to hurry the intro in order to let the presenters relay their information onto the audience.

Voice Overs:

With most voice over for news intro it will mainly be a deep male voice over because they give off the impression of importance and authority and dominance and this helps as it gets your attention and make you want to watch what is happening and what the stories are on the news and gives the presenter more importance as well by how they say their name, as they say it like they are person they should be listening to and you can also see they have no thick or non understanding accent, it is clear and well spoken person so you can tell the program is professional.

Sets and Colours:

Obviously every news program has a set in which they sit and tell their audience the news stories, but you can see some obvious things, one is that the colours red and blue seem to be part of the main colour scheme of the set and this is also in most of sets as well, the reason behind it is that they're the world of office colours and also to some both red and blue could be shown as important as the British and American flag have those colours. But you can also see that most sets have a transparent background of either their workplace or they will have television screen which is show images or videos of what they are talking about at the time to keep up the continuity, the set is also very clean to show that the program is very professional and the presenter are behind the desk and are sitting up right to also show professionalism.

Presenters:

With every single news program they always have a presenter which relays in the information to the audience watching and you can see that most presenter sort of follow the same characteristics, they will most like be a heterosexual white male or female, who look very middle class and will probably has studied at university, a high end university like Cambridge and most likely come from London and not have an accent so they are well spoken and that they use any slag that could possibly confuse the audience. Most presenters also have to deliver the new transparent, as they are supposed to be impartial and serious. This means they can do limited facial expressions, so they reveal their own view on the story. Also most presenter like everyone in media have to follow a script and the presenter's one is near called the auto cue and this makes it so the presenter look like they're talking directly to the audience, as to try and make it seems there is a connection between the presenter and the audience watching. The common thing you see on a news program is the fact the presenter is always sitting behind a desk when delivering the news to their audience, unlike some that stand up and you see most of their body instead.
